My Week In Food
Yesterday, I cooked Dutch Yellow potatoes in my air fryer and ate them with bacon jam, sour cream and one sunny side up egg for breakfast. Last week, a friend made collard greens and another friend made chicken and dumplings. My friends are wonderful!
Pumpkin Spice Is Still A Thing
Do you love all things pumpkin spice? I don’t. My sister called me to rave about the limited edition Pumpkin Spice Cheerios. I must confess that I hate Cheerios. They taste like cardboard to me. Anyway, there’s a study from Montclair State University that shows that pumpkin spice is still a thing.
It Took Less Than Two Weeks to Get Bottled Negroni Sbagliato
I am not watching the “dragon show” on HBO, so it took me a minute to figure why two British actors talking about an Italian cocktail went viral. Bartenders all over the country are scrambling to make a Negroni Sbagliato, but a bottled cocktail is now on the market. I think this cocktail is popular because Americans are already drinking Aperol Spritz and the Negroni Sbagliato is basically a Negroni Spritz.
Black Southern Food Is Not Killing Us
There’s a great article that I found via Roxane Gay’s newsletter and I had to share it. Black Southern (AKA soul food) is not killing us. Systemic racism is.
Black Southern food is seasonal, healthy, nuanced, and rich with culture and meaning.
Get Your Spices Now
If you are cooking for Thanksgiving, then now is the time to buy spices. I highly recommend ordering from Spicewalla.
Rap Sh!t
I learned by watching the HBO Max show, Rap Sh!t, that it is very important to get on a Spotify playlist, so I am super proud of my second cousin Ernesto Birmingham. His new single, Brother Wassup, just made the Release Radar playlist on Spotify. The music reminds me of Brand Nubian, Camp Lo, and Gang Starr.
This week’s Poll
Last week, you voted. Caramel apples are more popular than candied apples. I suggest adding a little sea salt on top if you make caramel apples from scratch.
