The Lessons Remain
I Am Somebody
Yesterday started out great. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. I led a tour group of sixteen people and got some cash tips afterwards. Later, I walked through the park and ran into an old friend who told me that she just came back from a service for Dr. Patricia Stewart who was a retired educator. She and I were on the board of Susie King Taylor Community School, a charter school here in Savannah. Dr. Pat was also instrumental in getting Calhoun Square to be renamed to Taylor Square. I saw her at the dedication in 2022. She passed away in December at the age of 96. I had already heard about the death of another teacher, Dr. Linda Davis. Dr Linda Davis was a teacher at Hesse K-8 School who died in a car crash as a Guatemalan immigrant who was evading ICE.
