Make Cucumber Simple Syrup
Whenever I see cucumbers floating in water, I think spa water. Last week, I used two cucumbers to make a simple syrup, and it’s so refreshing. Make cucumber syrup and add it your iced tea right now. It’s like a southern spa day. If you haven’t made simple syrup before, here’s the quick recipe.
How Much Is A Smidgen?
Lapham’s Quarterly writes about the small amounts that are in recipes.
To assist novice cooks it seems some American food writers have begun giving exact measurements (as fractions of teaspoons) to the traditionally inexact terms. A dash is said to be 1/8 of a teaspoon, a pinch 1/16 of a teaspoon, a smidgen 1/32 of a teaspoon, and a drop 1/64 of a teaspoon.
The Death Of Fancy Ketchup
Cathy Erway has written on the third rail of condiments, ketchup. No matter how many attempts have been made to sell a fancy ketchup that competes with Heinz, Heinz Ketchup has a chokehold on the condiment aisle in the grocery stores across the country.
I have praised Brooklyn Delhi’s Ketchup for years, and it is sad that it is being discontinued at the end of the year. I personally bought four bottles myself.
Now Listening
I can no longer fall asleep to podcasts because they creep into my dreams. Sleep playlists sound like homework to me, so I have been looking for some chill music to listen to Madison McFerrin fits the bill. Listen to her new album, “I Hope You Can Forgive Me” on Spotify.
For Your Consideration
When I started this newsletter over two years ago, I didn’t know if I would keep it up weekly. Now it’s one of my vocations, and I do want to make this viable financially. I am holding off on doing a paid subscriptions for now, but I will post a link to my Venmo once a month. Click on the link below and or buy a cookbook via my Bookshop affiliate list.
Share this newsletter with other lovely humans. Thank you so very much. :)
