I have been trying so hard to make shrubs happen but apparently hard Kombucha will happen first. Sour Patch Kids is doing black candy hearts for Valentine’s Day, but I think it is secretly a Black History Month promotion.

Carnival is a season and Mardi Gras is the end of the season. All over the world, there’s food that celebrates the time before Lent begins. From doughnuts to pancakes, Gastro Obscura lists eleven decadent Carnival treats. By the way, February 21st is Mardi Gras.

Only in Savannah: I enjoyed a muffuletta kolache from Henny Penny. In case you don’t know, a muffuletta is a classic New Orleans sandwich with Italian cold cuts and olive tapenade. A kolache is a Czech pastry that is popular in Texas. It is often filled with meat and cheese. The muffuletta kolache was filled with salami and olive tapenade. It was delicious.

Kardea Brown is a Food Network star and five recipes from her cookbook, The Way Home: A Celebration of Sea Islands Food and Family with Over 100 Recipes, are featured in The Kitchn.
