My Week In Food
Last week, I went to New York and I ate a lot of delicious food.
I ate tacos at Puya Tacos which just opened at 30 Rockefeller Center. My friends and I couldn’t find at it first, but one of the guys who works at Field Trip showed us where to go. That was such a nice act of kindness and Chef JJ Johnson’s team is great.
Old school Italian cuisine is what enjoyed with friends last Monday at Emilio’s Ballato. This place doesn’t take reservations so we waited outside for an hour for a table. The wait was worth it. I had the tagliatelle alla bolognese and the eggplant parmesan. It was delicious.
Make It Tropical
My friend Laura made a guava bread pudding for dessert, and I think she’s onto something. Using tropical fruit in traditional desserts is so refreshing. Here’s a recipe for a passion fruit pie from Marissa Rothkopf which is pretty much the same ingredients for key lime pie except for the fruit.
Chelsea Market Stop
There are lots of new places in Chelsea Market since I was there four years ago. I had to stop by ALF Bakery in Chelsea Market after reading about the bakery in Eater. I had a delicious mushroom danish, a lemon sugar brioche and another danish with ham, peppers and cheese.
I also had a hot dog from Dickson Farmstand Meats. I used to have it when I worked at Chelsea Market twelve years ago, and it is still one of my favorites. It’s a beef hot dog topped with chow chow and Kewpie mayo.
