Hey, Dumpling
Author Crystal Wilkinson has written a memoir about generations of her family growing up in Appalachia. Check out her recipe for peppery chicken and dumplings. Her book, Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts: Stories and Recipes from Five Generations of Black Country Cooks, will be released on January 23th.
Y’all Means All
I met Virginia Willis years ago when she was on a panel at TECHmunch Atlanta, a food conference that I co-produced with Babette Pepaj. Virginia is a chef and cookbook author and she has written many cookbooks. One of her cookbooks, Lighten Up, Y’all, is being revised and re-released. (It’s only available on Amazon).
Gentle January
Diets, Dry January and resolutions can be overwhelming at the beginning of the year. I just read about Gentle January which is a concept that I embrace. I learned about “Gentle January” via
who got it from Karlee Flores and it is something to consider.I’m not telling you to deny your goals, or to trash that resolution. I’m just telling you when I decided to make my January’s gentle, I began to love the coldest, darkest month of the year.
What does “Gentle January” mean to me? It means easing back into the groove of things. It means taking time and making a point to rest. The holidays are mentally stressful, so this is the perfect time to reduce the amount of sensory overload. I am doing more decoupling of activities like not listening to podcasts or music when I am writing or cooking. Decoupling is the opposite of multitasking. Multitasking is overrated.
Have a delicious week,
