Last week Kiese Laymon and Imani Perry had a conversation online. One takeaway I took from the conversation is that Kiese talked about pushing virtuosity. Virtuosity is defined as a great technical skill. I think about that as a creative. How do you create while the world is burning around you? For me, it is about time-shifting the sparks of creativity. If I think of something, I try to write it down whenever I am inspired or record it on my phone. It’s hard to stick to a regular schedule.

Imani Perry writes for The Atlantic. BTW, she’s my cousin.
