I am back after Thanksgiving week with my family. I smoked a turkey on the grill for the first time ever. It was a little dry but not bad for my first time. If you are in Atlanta, I recommend Leftie Lee’s in Decatur for Korean/Southern food. They also bake delicious milk bread. Also, you should go ahead and place a Christmas order for a pie from Buttermilk Sky. Lastly, get some brisket from Rodney Scott BBQ. There’s a location near Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Pimento Cheese Sandwiches for Everyone
In his eulogy for his grandmother, Rosalynn, Jason Carter recalls how she once made pimento cheese sandwiches on a flight and gave them out to family and other passengers. That is the epitome of Southern hospitality.
High On the Hog
Season 2 of High On The Hog is on Netflix. The episode about Civil Rights includes Cheryl Day talking about Georgia Gilmore who made pies during the Montgomery Bus Boycotts. Pies from Nowhere: How Georgia Gilmore Sustained the Montgomery Bus Boycott by Dee Romito is a great gift idea.
By the way, I met Dr. Jessica B. Harris when she was visiting Savannah. She signed a copy of her book, High On The Hog, and gave it to me.
Spotify Wrapped
It’s Spotify Wrapped Day and I want to share my most shared podcast episode which is about Black people and vanilla ice cream.
Have a delicious week,
