It was over in a New York minute. I spent a long weekend in the city and spent time in Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn. I saw lots of art. I went to a gallery in Chelsea (Amy Sherald) the new MoMa (Betye Saar) and Times Square (Kehinde Wiley).
It was great to see friends and their families. Singing kids song at a toddler’s birthday was so joyful.
I did open mic at QED on Friday. I got a couple laughs from New York comics. I feel legit.
Celebrity Sightings
I spotted Actress Judy Reyes at the Paper Factory Hotel. I spotted Dr. Cornel West on the Airtrain. I saw Josh Gondleman do stand up in Brooklyn.
All the construction in New York made me feel small. There are too many cranes in the sky. There is too much newness and not as much renovating old buildings. Now I live in an old city, Savannah. Skyscrapers don’t make sense here. Historic preservation is a common topic of discussion here. Anyway, there’s so much to see in the city. I will spend days processing it all. One thing I noted was everyone in New York wears athleisure.
Have a great week!
Nichelle
PS
Two reasons to visit Savannah:
SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) Film Festival starts next week here in Savannah. There’s an excellent Frederick Douglass exhibit at SCAD Museum of Art.
