DESTROYED BY DELTA
I was all packed with flowy sundresses, shorts with elastic waistbands and platform sandals. Between my dad’s cooking and my sister’s itinerary, I was to spend this week eating all over Atlanta, Decatur and Marietta. However, the Delta variant stopped everything. After being vaccinated since April and wearing a mask at work, I got Covid. Right now, I am quarantining at home. I have less energy, I feel like I have a summer cold and my sense of taste and smell are barely there. However, I am not in the hospital and I hope to make a full recovery.
I am eating, but it is not very fun. My senses of taste and smell are dull. They are not totally nonexistent but they are dampened. On the bright side, I am adding tumeric to smoothies mainly because it have a strong flavor and it has health benefits. I have also added cilantro to my eggs because I can barely taste it.
BLACK PEOPLE AND BOURDAIN
I read Kitchen Confidential years ago, and I ate at Les Halles a few times when I lived in New York. I was sad when I heard about Anthony Bourdain’s death three years ago, but I don’t want to see the new documentary, “Roadrunner”. Anthony Bourdain had a lot of fans in the Black community, and I wonder who is considered to be the “Black Bourdain”. IMHO, Stephen Satterwaite is poised for the comparison, although I doubt he wants to take the mantle. Watch High on The Hog on Netflix if you haven’t already.
SPAGHETTI ON THE BEACH
Desus & Mero is the main reason that I added Showtime to my Hulu subscription. Mero has mentioned for years about how Dominicans in the Bronx and Washington Heights bring empaguetadas on the beach. What are empaguetadas? It is basically spaghetti. Last week, Eater wrote about this and my friend Clay Williams took the photographs.
My sister gave me a great podcast recommendation. RadioLab collaborated with Radio Diaries to present a six-part podcast about Harry Pace who was a Black businessman who did a lot of stuff. My cousin Imani Perry is featured in the series. Listen to The Vanishing of Harry Pace.
These fruit slice fanny packs are super cute.
So sorry to hear that you"got it". Get some rest and holler if I can do anything for you😉
