As I am working on this week’s newsletter, another mass shooting happened. I would have been done with this missive already if only I didn’t indulge in a leisurely lunch today with a good friend. Tomorrow is never promised, so spend time with your people.
Send One Your Love
Just because it is 2022 and not 2020, doesn’t mean you should stop sending cards and writing to friends and family. These thank you cards from Eeni are so beautiful.
Doing Da Boston Butt
Who is feeding a group of people this Memorial Day weekend? If you want to make something delicious and easy, slow cook a Boston Butt for pulled pork sandwiches and or tacos. For the gluten-food people, get some corn tortillas. Then all you need is pickles, coleslaw and potato chips.
Hot Take: French Press Make Terrible Coffee
Coffee is not my thing. I like the smell of freshly brewed coffee, but I rarely drink it. K-Cups destroy the environment and instant coffee is for plebeians, so making coffee using a French press is considered cool. Apparently, this method has opposition since Gawker (yeah, that site) says that French presses make terrible coffee.
More Than Good Soup
Do you prefer to eat things with a spoon? When you are a baby the spoon is the first utensil you use (other than your hands). I use a spoon only for cereal, soup and ice cream. However, there are people who prefer to use a spoon for all “soft foods" like rice, grits, creamed corn, etc. Here is a list of 21 mushy foods for spoon feeders.
From One Year Ago…
I am saving you the trouble of digging the crates of my archives, below is the newsletter from this week one year ago. One of the articles I linked to is the issue of dress codes in restaurants. The New York Times just did a piece about this recently, but they didn’t really touch on how dress codes are redlining Black guests other than the recent incident with former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Be gentle with yourselves. Rest.
Have a delicious week,
Nichelle
