Getting back in touch with old friends is one of the few good things I have experienced as we are thriving during this pandemic. Thanks to all the old friends who have subscribed to this newsletter. I see you!
31 Black-Authored Cookbooks Everyone Should Have In Their Kitchen
Thanks to my friend Rachel, I saw this wonderful list of Black-authored cookbooks compiled by Buzzfeed. BTW, I have a list of books on Bookshop, and many of the books are also on this list.
Got Treif?
My friend Jenn De La Vega is mentioned in a Lifehacker article about adding heavy cream to ground beef, and so I tried it. I marinated some ground beef in heavy cream last week, and it was delicious. I used the beef in a casserole that I made last week. I freestyled a recipe by adding the beef, chopped onions, potatoes, cheddar cheese and frozen broccoli to the casserole and it was delicious.
Let This Essay Cook This Week
Sam Sifton of the New York Times offers suggestions of what to cook every week, and he always links to recipes and articles in the New York Times. This week he links to my cousin Imani’s article, Do We Ask Too Much of Black Heroes?
How to 'Air-Fry' Food Without an Air Fryer

Pinky Cole Is Revolutionizing Veganism For The South
I don’t know exactly when I heard about Slutty Vegan, but I immediately thought it was provocative name for a food truck. Now, Pinky Cole has been opening up Slutty Vegan restaurants all over Atlanta, and is expanding to Birmingham. She is a Black woman who is changing minds and appetites about veganism in the Black community.
Pickle Me, Please
My good friends David and Catherine sent me a gift box last month from Mouth.com and I highly recommend it. If you like pickles and booze, check out the Boozy Pickles Box. It includes four jars of pickles from four different artisans and they were delicious. The “Pickles under the Ginfluence” from Pacific Pickles Works were my favorite, but all are good. BTW, I just had a dill sour beer from my friend Chance. You can follow him on Instagram at Chance The Pickler.
I linked to an article about Pinky Cole in this week's Nichelle Newsletter and today I spotted another one about her business acumen. https://moguldom.com/336036/10-things-to-know-about-atlantas-slutty-vegan-restaurants-explosive-growth/
