My Week in Food and Drink
I have never heard of damson plums until last week. Damson plums are native to Great Britain, and I had a refreshing cocktail with 6 O’Clock Damson plum gin and tonic. It’s baking season, and Google searches for cupcakes were up 186% in past week. I made brownies from a Duncan Hines mix and added Biscoff cookie butter to them.
Resurrecting the Spudnut, America’s Forgotten Halloween Treat
You may know about potato pancakes and potato buns, but what about potato doughnuts? Spudnuts was a popular potato doughnut chain that started in Salt Lake City but fell apart in the 1970s.
“The Spudnut is a little bit of a mystery,” says Keith Larson, the founder of Johnny O’s Spudnuts. “I’ve called people who own Spudnut stores and they don’t want to talk to you. There were all these big legal fights.”
IMHO, There’s a podcast or a tv show that could be made about Spudnuts.

Community fridges are not a pandemic fad. There are a way to fight hunger
Food waste is more than an annoyance. If we work together, we could prevent people from going to bed hungry. There are community fridges all over the country working to fight hunger. I would gladly contribute to a community fridge in my city, and there is an effort to create one. However, there is no business here in Savannah who has agreed to host a community fridge yet.
