Kudos
I want to celebrate the success of old friends who are doing it. Congratulations to Jose Ralat on winning the 2021 International Latino Book Award for Best Travel Book. Jose’s book is American Tacos.
Congratulations to Cathy Erway on her IACP award for her recipe-focused column, Know Your Chicken. The IACP is the International Association of Culinary Professionals and you can see the list of winners on their website.
Black Food Book Is Here
I wrote about Bryant Terry’s new publishing imprint, 4 Color Books, back in May. Now, the first book is out. Black Food is a cookbook peppered with culinary history. Check out a book review on Bloomberg. I added it to my Bookshop list so order it from the link below.
PASSING
Yesterday, I went to a movie theater for the first time in two years. This week in Savannah is the SCAD Film Fest and I attended a screening of ‘Passing’ starring Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson. It was brilliant, and I can’t for people to see it because I want to discuss it. Watch the trailer below.
There Weren’t Enough Black Food Festivals, A Couple Started One
Although I don’t live in Charlotte, I joined a Facebook Group geared toward Black-owned businesses because I want to know about them for a future visit to Charlotte. A post on that group page is where I first heard about the Bayhaven Food and Wine festival that Greg and Subrina Colliers hosted last weekend. Bon Appetit interviewed the couple and hopefully this will be the first of many.
